Level Designer, Environment Artist, Lighting Artist
Museum Tycoon is a tycoon game where you open up your own museum and grind out coins to unlock new exhibits and art works for your followers.
I did the map, lighting and particles for the game, while my dev partner did the Verse Coding. I started by making the buildings base walls in Maya, importing and texturing, and then moving to the art works. The art works are a mix of custom maya assets, and assets from the base Fortnite library.
Lighting wise I set the scene at night and put a big focus on warm lighting. The buildings in the skyline have a strong orange/red lighting facing upward to imitate a real city. The interior goes to more of a golden color to reinforce the fine art-like aesthetic. Additionally I made custom particles effects in the air to make the scenes feel more realistic and immersive I cast an upward spotlight on the building sign headers to emulate the real world practice.
I'm particularly proud of the opening outdoor section of the map. Our map starts you at the bottom of a stair case leading up towards the museum. You see a breathtaking view of the museum front and the city skyline in the background, before going to the museum entrance and beginning the game loop. We specifically spent a lot of time balancing the tycoon economy design to keep the gameplay time around 35 minutes long.
